Wine Description: Castello Banfi Bell'Agio Chianti has a fresh and floral aroma with hints of ripe berries and plums and just a touch of oak. Bursting with fresh raspberries, the firm tannins and good balancing acidity round out this wine that has a lot of flavor in it.
Wine Folly: Sangiovese is italy's most planted grape and the key variety in Toscana, Chianti. The high acidity of the the sangiovese allows it to match well with all kind of well spiced foods, Its one of the few wines that goes well with tomato sauce. Notes to look for are Cherry, Roasted Tomato, Sweet Balsamic, Oregano and Expresso.(pg 358).
My Review: The aroma of the wine was quite light, though I definitely picked up some spice. Overall, the smell wasn’t very strong. As for the taste, I was expecting some acidity because of the Sangiovese grapes, but surprisingly, it was much smoother than I anticipated. It had a dry finish and was really easy to drink. I didn’t pick up on many of the notes mentioned in Wine Folly, but it definitely had a fruity flavor.I’d absolutely recommend this wine! I didn’t pair it with food or let it decant for 15–30 minutes as recommended, but even without that, it tasted great. I’d definitely buy it again.Rating: 🍷🍷🍷🍷/5
